The ‘Hold is proud to present it’s first official release, Audio Refuge: a compilation of original afro-beat, north-african, dancehall, hip hop, dub-step, cumbia and more, including tracks from some truly talented Bay Area artists with roots around the globe. On Thursday, Dec. 2nd @ the Blue Macaw, Stronghold Sound will be featuring performances by some of these artists including: Wontanara, The Dunes, Yassir Chadly, Excentrik, Iggy Mon, Bongo, with djs Juan Data and dub Snakkr on the decks.

King Bongo & Wontanara :: Live @ Baobob Village
February 10th, 2010So, the first installment of Wontanara Presents was a success, with a good crowd, good vibes, special guests and great sound comin’ from the band and all the musicians that performed. Wontanara just gets tighter and tighter so expect a release from these guys in the near future. Alpha Oumar “Bongo” Sidibe
February 4th, 2010Alpha Oumar “Bongo” Sidibe is a traditional drummer from Conakry, Guinea in West Africa. He is Musical Director of Duniya Dance and Drum Company and founder and lead singer of the Wontanara Band. Bongo studied drumming with Master Drummer Mamady Keita at his school, Tam Tam Mandigue, Guinea, and participated in his workshops in Conakry and Balandougou, Mamady’s village. He performed with Ballet Jah Karlo in Dakar, Senegal, and recorded the CD “N’dguel Fall” and toured with Orchestre Baye Fall. Before leaving Guinea, he was co-director of Balandougou Kan, a group of traditional percussionists and dancers. Since arriving in the U.S., Bongo has performed with The Grateful Dead, Rhythm Village, Mickey Hart, Joan Baez, and Black Nature from Sierra Leone Refugee Allstars.
